Code of Conduct

City Lyric Opera is committed to creating safe spaces for audience members and artists alike. City Lyric Opera productions and events are governed by this City Lyric Opera’s Code of Conduct and City Lyric Opera’s Non-Harassment Policy. By entering any City Lyric Opera program you are agreeing to these policies. 

Code of Conduct

City Lyric Opera events and productions are meant to further our mission by creating safe places for all to grow, think, and enjoy opera. To create this space you agree to the following:

  • Be safe, respectful, and kind

  • Give freedom to enter the space with their full selves free from discrimination or harassment

  • Foster collaboration and/or conversation that allows for all to expand their experience with a program

  • Respect the privacy and vulnerability of those engaged in this space

City Lyric Opera reserves the right to ask anyone who does not adhere to this to leave any program.

Non-Harassment Policy

City Lyric Opera is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, or religion. CLO does not tolerate harassment of staff, artists, or audience members in any form. Anyone in violation of these policies may be expelled from City Lyric Opera programs and/or events.

Harassment includes but is not limited to: offensive verbal or written comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion; sexual images in public spaces; deliberate intimidation; stalking; following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact; unwelcome sexual attention; unwarranted exclusion; and patronizing language or action.

If an artist or audience member engages in harassing behavior, City Lyric Opera may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from City Lyric Opera programming and events.

If you or someone else is harassed

If you are being or harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, want to report an issue, or have any other concerns, please contact Megan Gillis, Managing Director, at mgillis@citylyricopera.org. If you cannot reach City Lyric Opera staff and/or it is an emergency, please call 911 and/or remove yourself from the situation, if possible.

We value you and hope that by setting these expectations we can create a more fulfilling experience for all of our audiences and artists.

City Lyric Opera’s Code of Conduct and Anti-Harassment Policy are adaptations of Code for America’s Community Code of Conduct and Anti-Harassment Policy.
